meet the directors

Our four directors Martin, Frank, Chris and Miguel took over as owners of the business in April 2019 when the founder, Martin Hoar, retired. They have been with Goodwater in various roles for a combined total of over 100 years and bring a wealth of experience and a variety of skills and knowledge into the board room.

Martin King

Managing Director

In his current role as Managing Director and Chairman of Goodwater, Martin is responsible for strategic and financial planning for the business alongside management of several key business accounts.

He joined the company in the summer of 1990 having completed accountancy exams for a possible career in finance. Goodwater was a fledgling business at the time and since joining he has occupied a number of sales, engineering, operations, and management roles before becoming Managing Director in 2006.

In his spare time Martin enjoys spending time with family and friends. He is a keen sportsman and regularly plays and coaches football and has recently taken up cycling.

"Goodwater has been a life’s work, and I’m immensely proud of what we have achieved together so far and will hopefully continue to do in the future. My vision when taking up the current position was for Goodwater to become recognised for its technical competence, diverse range of products and services, and for delivering a customer experience which was second to none.

I care passionately about our staff as it is people that make a fantastic business. I set up a graduate training scheme to give young adults a place to start their career and learn essential skills and created a benefits and recognition programme to ensure employees’ efforts are acknowledged, celebrated, and rewarded."

Frank Butterworth

Technical Director

Frank is a degree qualified chemist and has worked in the water treatment industry for approaching 30 years. During his time at Goodwater, he has worked in numerous roles including engineering, sales and technical and compliance. He is just as adept at negotiating technical sales as he is in compiling complicated technical compliance specifications.

As head of the Technical team, Frank has been responsible for the delivery of many high-profile projects both abroad and in the UK including:

  • Water and Effluent Treatment Plant for Bechtel's Base in Hassi Messaoud, Algeria
  • Water and Effluent Treatment Plant at Loch Lomond Visitors Centre
  • Water Treatment Plant for exploration camp in Ganja, Azerbaijan
  • Purified Water Delivery System for AstraZeneca, Alderley Park
  • Purified Water Delivery System for Wolfson Laboratories, Guys Hospital

He has also worked on the Pre-Commission Chemical Cleaning of numerous LTHW, CHW and Condenser Water Systems as well as with the installation of Cooling Tower Systems and Steam Raising Plant. Frank’s advice is actively sought at the design stage of new projects, and he has consulted extensively.

In his capacity as Technical Director Frank is also responsible for the company’s technical and compliance delivery as well as all research and development.

Outside of work Frank enjoys dining out and long rides on his motorcycle, and looks forward to his annual European camping holiday.

Chris King

Operations Director

Chris joined the company in 1996 after his university education. His starting position was as a Sales Engineer, splitting his time between sales and warehouse/ deliveries.

He soon became the leading sales person and worked his way up through the ranks becoming Sales Manager within five years and Sales Director seven years later - his hard work, dedication and flexibilty seeing him occupy various roles since then including heading up the Contracting and Equipment Divisions simultaneously before moving across into Operations when the company restructured in 2017.

As well as being responsible for the Operations side of the business, Chris also now runs new and varied projects - the most recent of which have been the creation and maintenance of our website and the company intranet, and moving Goodwater into the world of on-site digital reporting for all our service visits enhancing our service and offering to our customers.

Outside of work Chris loves spending time with family and friends, walking his dog Max, cycling and watching his beloved Arsenal. He also enjoys listening to music, playing the guitar, reading historical crime fiction and going on holiday.

Miguel Garcia

Sales Director

Miguel joined Goodwater in the summer of 1996 as a site-based engineer, before joining the office team as a Sales Engineer the following year. His affable nature and drive to enhance our products and services, as well as his strong focus on customer service, made him a success in this role for many years, eventually becoming Sales Manager and then a Company Director in 2008.

Initially heading up the Equipment Division, managing both the sales and operations, Miguel then concentrated his efforts on to sales, creating a specification team, recruiting and training our up-and-coming sales people, many of whom are now successful Account Managers within the business. He also introduced numerous new products into our range and successfully restructured the Equipment team again in 2018.

He continues to manage Key Accounts thanks to his strong relationships across the industry, and in 2020 became Chair of the Society of Public Health Engineers Industry Working Group, supporting the society to increase its membership and bring young talent into the industry.

Miguel loves walking his dogs on the beach and is a keen open water swimmer. He spends time with his family and friends whenever he can and enjoys working on, and sometimes even relaxing in, his garden.
